I always enjoy watching nature shows.

난 항상 자연관련 쇼를 보는것을 즐긴다.

 

Since I rarely get to see animals in their natural habitat in person.

왜냐하면, 자연속에 사는 동물들을 직접 만날 기회가 별로없기 때문이다.

 

seeing them doing what they normally do  on television is the next best thing.

TV 에서 그들이 평소에 무얼 하는지 보는것은 그 다음으로 즐거운 일이다.

 

 I was recently watching a show on animals in Africa thriving when the weather is good and surviving
when the weather is not so good.

최근에 내가 본 동물 프로그램은 아프리카에서 날씨가 좋을때 즐기는 동물들과 날씨가 나쁠때 살아남으려는 동물들을에 대한 것이었다.

 

Then I got to thinking about us... humans... and how in some ways we thrive or survive depending on the social or economic climate that surrounds us.
그래서 우리들에 대해 생각하게 되었다. 인간...그리고, 우리주변에 있는 사회적이나 경제적 상황에 따라서 우린 어떻게 즐기고, 어떻게 살아남는 것일까.

 

Then I thought, "What makes us so special? How are we different from animals?"
그리고 나서 생각했다 "무엇이 우릴 그렇게 특별하게 만드는 것일까? 동물과 우리가 다른점은 무엇일까?"

 

Of course, we are like animals.

물론, 우린 동물과 다를바가 없다.

 

we eat, drink, sleep, grow, make families, and pass on.

우린 먹고, 마시고, 자고, 자라고, 가족을 만들고 그리고 전달하고..

 

We are at the top of the food chain.

우린 음식 체인중에서 젤 위에 있다.

 

We can kill other animals for food if we want. 

우린 우리가 원하면 음식을 위해 동물들을 죽일수있다.

 

But animals kill for need.

그러나 동물들은 필요에 의해서만 죽인다.

 

Humans sometimes kill out of anger.

사람들은 가끔 화가 나서 죽이기도 한다.

 

We can tame animals, but animals can't tame us.

우린 동물들을 길들일 수 있지만, 동물들은 우리를 길들일 수 없다.

 

Humans can help other humans and animals in need.

인간은 다른 사람들과 동물들을 필요에 의해 도와줄 수 있다.

 

Sure, some pets are known to have rescued their owners,

물론, 어떤 애완동물들은 그들의 주인을 살렸다고 잘 알려져있다.

 

but it's rare for an animal to save a human.
그러나 동물들이 사람을 구하는것은 극히 드문일이다.

If animals think much, they don't really show it.

만약 동물들이 생각을 많이 하면, 그들은 정말 보여지지 않는다.

Humans, on the other hand, sure do a lot of thinking.

사람들, 반면에, 당연히 많은 생각들을 한다.

 

We dedicate thought to philosophy.

우린 현상에 많은 생각을 기여한다.

 

We contemplate our own deaths.

우린 우리의 죽음에 대해 심사숙고한다.

 

We write books.

우린 책을 쓴다.

 

We create art.

우린 예술을 창조한다.

 

We spend leisure time doing things... just for fun, just to enjoy life, not because we have to do those things to survive.

우린 재미를 위해 삶을 즐기기 위해 우린 여가시간을 보낸다. 우리가 살아남기 위해서 여가를 즐기는 것은 아니다.

 

It seems like humans are not really satisfied with themselves.

이것은 인간들은 정말 그들 자신에 만족을 못하는것 같다.

 

We are into self-improvement.

우린 자가 발전을 한다.

 

We also go overboard and go to extremes because we are hard to satisfy.

우린 역시 만족을 쉽게 하지 못하기 때문에 해외에 나간다.

 

We get surgery and change the way we look.

우린 수술을 하고(성형을하고) 우리의 외모를 변형시킨다.

 

Animals know how to live harmoniously in their natural environment.

동물들은 그들의 자연 환경에서 어떻게 잘 조화를 이루면서 살아야 하는지 알고있다.

 

We shape our environment to fit our needs... and sometimes destroy that natural environment.

우리는 우리의 자연 환경을 우리의 필요에 의해 만들어 나간다. 그리고, 가끔은 자연환경을 파괴하기도 한다.

 

There are few famous animals in history.
역사속엔 유명한 동물들이 꽤 있다.

 

There are many famous people who are remembered for what they have done.

우리들의 역사속에 있는 유명한 사람들은 그들이  살아생전에 무엇을 했는가에 따라 기억된다.

 

Human history is full of triumphs of doing what was thought to be impossible.

인간역사는 우리가 불가능이라 생각했던 것을 이룬 성공으로 가득차 있다.

 

Humans can do amazing things, but so can animals.

인간은 놀라운 일들을 할 수 있지만, 동물들 역시 그럴수 있다.
