Mr. Koji Oinuma emailed Travel and Yachting to request for a car rental.
In the email he specified the model he wanted.
Because he was thinking about driving from The Big Apple to San Francisco,
he wanted a car with all the convenient features of a luxury sedan he was used to seeing on TV and in the streets.
The car rental agent from Travel and Yachting responds to Mr. Oinuma.
Her email includes information on the following: unlimited mileage, place of delivery and return, car insurance and health care coverage, driver’s license and a major credit card, automatic transmission and/or manual transmission, etc.
Koji was thinking about returning the car on August 14 in the evening.
But one thought crossed his mind: ‘What about tax?’ Koji had to pay value-added tax, V.A.T., which was about ten percent.
It was about 429 Euros. Anyway, when Koji started driving from The Big Apple, everything was fine.
However, when driving on one of the Interstates, he realized that someone was tailgating.
This crazy driver bumped into Koji’s rental car’s bumper. But the car that was driving to the left of Koji’s rental car had struck the left side-view mirror.
Right away, the side-view mirror falls off. The left door is damaged, and the left window is cracked. Strangely the two vehicles just drive off. Mr. Oinuma parks the car to the side of the road and calls the car rental agent right away.
Oinuma reports that he was just involved in a traffic collision. He also says that he is somewhere on Interstate 68, a major road in America. The agent then asks Koji if he can drop off the car to the nearest Travel and Yachting Branch.
Koji replies that he’s afraid to continue driving, for fear that he might get involved in another similar situation.
After a few minutes, a towing truck from Travel and Yachting arrives and picks up the damaged rental car. He soon gets another call from the same agent and is asked whether or not he would want the same model as a replacement.
Surprisingly, the car arrives within a minute of their phone conversation. When the replacement car arrives, it starts to rain. Koji quickly gets in the car and starts operating the windshield wiper.
Maybe it was Murphy’s Law, or just one of those days, the wiper started malfunctioning.
He places a call to the same agent who helped him out.
With an angry tone, Mr. Oinuma demands that he be sent a top-of-the-line model from Travel and Yachting. Koji demands that he be picked up right away or be sent a new rental car that he’ll be satisfied with.
Trying to make sure that the third rental car he gets from the agency is impeccable, Koji tells the agent that he’d like a car whose taillights and headlights are working properly. He also demands that he be sent a car with the gas tank full. He says that he doesn’t want a car with manual transmission.
Lastly, he tells the car rental agent that he wants a car with plenty of trunk space for his golf club.
