The text “Uluru-Symbol of ancient Australia” by Moya Irvine deals with the world’s biggest monolith “Uluru”, sacred to the Anangu Aborigines, who own and run it and its facilities.
There are many famous sights for tourists.
Firstly the Cultural Centre near Uluru is a very interesting place because visitors can see beliefs, life, history, language and art of the Aborigines clearly.
Secondly a lot of people want to enjoy climb up the rock and hike around it in the intense heat, where there are paintings which show scenes from the life of Anangu because they had once inhabited there.
Uluru is a sacred site of the Anangu Aborigines because they believe it was created during the tjukurpa, when ancestral beings formed the earth.
The described reason is why only certain Anangu men climbed to the top of Uluru, for special religious ceremonies and why they are not really satisfied about the visitors climbing up it.
They, however, do not forbid it.
Thirdly the tourists also have permission to take photos when the best times come to view rock.
The rock changes its own colour depending on the time of day and the weather.
Moreover there are special car parks to watch the beautiful spectacular sunrise and sunset.

This world-famous monolith has a double name, one is the present official name “Uluru” and the another one is “in honour of Sir Henry Ayers”.
The unknown name was designated in 1873 by the European rock explorer William Goose.

Dear Lin-A
How are you doing?
Thanks for your e-mail, it was very nice.
It’s my first e-mail to you and I’m so sorry that I am replying your e-mail only now.
Sure, I am looking forward to tell you about my life in the foreign country.
It is already half a year ago since I have been arrived in Australia for study abroad.
In these times I have gotten know many friendly people from different countries, Aussies and also learned their own culture, lifestyle, Australian-English pretty much.
I like living here greatly.
In addition my Australian family is very kind and is always willing to help me.
So it would be lots difficult for me when the days are over to stay and have to leave here.
I am on the road and now I am at my first destination the world’s biggest monolith “Uluru”.
Have you ever heard about this rock?
It is sandy plain in the Northern Territory and still often called “Ayers Rock”, but the official name is “Uluru”.
The European Ernest Giles is the first discoverer of this monolith in the nineteenth century and the Australian goverment only gave it back to the Aborigines in 1985.
Here at Uluru, there are plenty of unusual things and people who I have never seen before.
In the Cultural Centre near the rock you see Aboriginal beliefs, life, history, language and art.
The caves around the base of Uluru, there are paintings show scenes from their life and many people enjoy hike around the rock in the intense heat.
Today morning I wanted climb up the monolith, but when I heard that this is sacred to the Anangu and saw the signpost with the discouraging message to climb it, I abandoned to do it.
I guess, it is necessary because only certain Anangu men climbed to the top of Uluru, for special religious ceremonies, before the white people came, which shows it is meaningful for them.
Obviously I have learned lots of part of the Aboriginal culture which is really special for me because as you know I am interested in experiencing and seeing new things.
I think, it is important for the Anangu Aborigines to own and run Uluru by themselves because they had once inhabited around the rock and here still lives their culture.
Therefore if they did not stay there anymore, all that would be disappeared.
Actually I and people come here to see these.
Thus I could realize over again that we all admit and want to learn another multiformity and among Anangu’s as well.
Shortly the sun will set and the Uluru will change its own colour.
Let’s come together next time, it would be so great.
You will certainly like it too and it is well worth doing it. J
Besides I will go to visit some other places in Australia very soon.
Tomorrow I will visit another sacred place in the desert “Kata Tjuta” and will learn and feel many things.
When I am in Sydney, I am going to a zoo to see the Australian wildlife.
As you already know Australia has a lot of animal you find nowhere else in the world.
Afterward I would like to go to the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in Sydney.
The Harbour Bridge is famous for climbing and I will do it, too.
At the Great Barrier Reef I want to go scuba diving.
Give my reagards to another friends from me, please.
I will send you an e-mail again when I arrive at home.
Hope, you have a good day.
See you then
Love,
