Texas

Nathan Eovaldi (6-3, 2.97 ERA) is aiming for his seventh win of the season. Eovaldi showcased an excellent performance on the road in Houston on the 14th, delivering seven innings with only one run. He has shown a strong trend of three consecutive QS+ games towards the end of the first half of the season. Given his strength in home games, expecting another QS+ performance is not an unreasonable demand. The fortunate part for Texas is that their batting lineup, which showed some disappointing performance in the road series towards the end of the first half, performs better at home. The top of the lineup is quite reliable. However, the bullpen, despite having some top-tier players, still has some issues to address.

Baltimore

Corbin Burnes (9-4, 2.43 ERA) is aiming for his 10th win of the season. Burnes faced a defeat in his last outing against the Cubs at home on the 11th, pitching six innings and giving up nine hits and three runs. His recent pitching performance has shown some signs of instability. He secured a win against Texas at home on June 28th, pitching seven innings and allowing only one run. Considering he is pitching again just two days after starting in the All-Star game, it matches his preference for shorter rest periods. The key factor will be whether the lineup, which started finding its rhythm towards the end of the first half, can maintain this momentum after the All-Star break. The fortunate part is that the team’s offense has been performing much better on the road than at home recently. Baltimore may have a relative advantage if the game goes into the bullpen.

Comment

Eovaldi is nearly untouchable in home games. There is plenty of room to expect a strong performance from him in this match as well. While Baltimore's decision to pitch Burnes might seem bold, pitching two days after a one-inning appearance could prove problematic. Texas, having a stronger starting pitcher, is closer to securing a win.
