◈ Toronto

Chris Bassitt (8 wins, 7 losses, 3.52 ERA) is aiming for his 9th win of the season. Bassitt, who secured a win on the 11th against San Francisco with a 5-inning, 3-run performance, did not have strong outings in his last two games of the first half. Since he is fundamentally strong in home games, a 6-inning, 2-run performance is sufficiently expected.
Toronto's lineup, which came alive in the final series of the first half, urgently needs to solve the issue of weaker home hitting compared to away games. The team’s home hitting is almost on par with a mere ‘3-run Jays’ level. The already collapsed bullpen has nothing further to lose.

◈ Detroit

Jack Flaherty (6 wins, 5 losses, 3.13 ERA) is aiming for his 7th win of the season. Flaherty, who returned after a break and secured a win with a 6-inning, 2-hit, 1-run performance at home against Cleveland on the 12th, seemed to benefit from sufficient rest. Although he lost on May 24th against Toronto at home with a 6.1-inning, 3-run performance, there is a risk of slight shaking during nighttime away games.
Detroit's lineup, which showed active hitting in the final series of the first half, has been remarkably focused in the latter part. However, the main variable seems to be weaker away hitting compared to home games. The recently improved bullpen can hold a relative advantage.

◈ Comment

Bassitt at home and recent Flaherty are pitchers that promise a competitive pitching duel. However, Toronto's home hitting is disappointing, and more importantly, if it goes to a bullpen battle, Detroit holds the upper hand, which will determine the outcome. The Detroit Tigers, who are ahead in pitching, are closer to victory.
