Korea, World's 62nd Happiest Country
According to a recent survey, South Korea ranked 62nd in the happiness index of 97countries. The research was conducted by the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research. The world happiness index showed that South Koreans were unhappier than the Japanese, Israelis and Chinese.
The World Values Surveys have asked more than 350.000 people for the past 26 years how happy they are. This year, Denmark topped the list, followed by Puerto Rico, Colombia and Iceland. Among the least happy countries wre Zimbabwe, Russia, and Pakistan. The United States ranks 16th on the list, after New Zealand.
The newly released data showed that happiness is rising around the world people in most countries are happier these days. "It's a surprising finding," said Ronald Inglehart, who directedthe World Values Surveys. "The results clearly show that the happiest societies are those that allow people the freedom to choose how to live their lives. A sence of freedom seems to be even more important than economic development in contributing to rising happiness."
