Degas' Early and Later Paintings.
Many painters in Degas' time thought that they could be better painters by copying famous paintings. Degas was one of them. He spent a lot of time in museums in his early days as a painter.
He especially liked to go to the Louvre Museum and copy famous paintings there.
One day, Degas met manet while ha was copying a painting at the Louvre Museum.
Manet looked at degas' painting.
He then told him to stop copying paintings and paint the everyday lives of people whom he saw around him.
-
Degas followed manet's advice, so he took his sketchbook everywhere.
soon, Degas' paintings began to chang.
Before, he painted people just standing still.
In later paintings,he painted people doing everyday things.
In one painting, a women is ironing. In another painting, a women is making hats.
Difference Brtween Degas and Other Painters in His day
There was one big difference between Degas and other famous painters in his day such as Monet and manet.
These painters mostly painted outside in the sunlight.
They painted mountains,trees,and flowers.
Unlike other painters,Degas liked to paint in his studio.
Sometimes he painted in his studio based on the sketches he drew outside. Sometimes he used models in the studio.
Dancers- Degas' Favorite Subject
Today, Degas is most famous for his paintings of young dancers.
Degas liked to show movement in his paintings.
My favorite painting is Dancer on Stage.
